Overcoming parenting guilt and overwhelm through connection with your child.
Can we make our children do what we want them to do? Force might work initially, but in the long run we are eroding our relationship with our child, leaving them to chose between submitting (and losing something of themselves) or rebelling against us.
The truth is, the connection we have with our children is the only real power we have as parents.
In this candid interview, Sally Prebble (co-founder of Peace Talks, NZ) explores:
- The beautiful gift we can offer our children if we are able to hear their pain without guilt or judgement.
- The doorway to connection that can open when we are able to be present with our children's pain.
- The fallacy that we can control children with force, and the surprising and life changing power of building deep and lasting connection with them.
- The need for parents to receive proper support and the tools they need to self connect, and gradually build the inner resources needed to care for children.
- The power of Nonviolent Communication (NVC, also known as Compassionate communication) as a way to building connection with ourselves, with our children, and in our wider communities.
